The Own Goal – Gurgler’s UK Football Weekly

It’s back, the full league of Football and a full rundown in this week’s Own Goal. After a parade of semi meaningful international fixtures qualifying for one tournament or another it’s nice to get back to the weekly dose of EPL and Football League.

Highlights are abundant in the EPL this weekend, two clashes catch the eye.

The first is two of the biggest teams and greatest rivals in the EPL – Manchester United and Liverpool. Both are in a sort of a rebuilding phase but both would not want to declare that after some extraordinary spending over the last few seasons of disappointment. Both managers rate themselves highly, but with recent stories of discontent at Manchester United, both may not be completely safe and especially if the underachievement continues. Both will certainly not want to lose to their other, and it will probably be very tight, a 0-0 most likely. The 2:30am Oz kickoff means it’s a record and watxh later job.

Another clash of note is the first v second clash. No surprises that Manchester City are one of those teams, but the home side Crystal Palace are the surprise so far, and after knocking off Chelsea last round will be keen to do it again. The only issue is their home form isn’t as sensational as their away form. One other side note is remembering back to a previous clash between Pardew and Pelligrini. Pardew showed his class by allegedly calling his opposite an old c**t. Just lovely.

What will be lovely is if one of our multis gets up this weekend, and surely we’re due with limited success if any so far this year.

Love your Football League? Of course you do, doesn’t everyone. Our full preview of the three lower divisions of English Football was previously posted at The Roar. Read all about it here and enjoy. Unless you’re a wanker troll.

The Highlight is a consecutive top of the table clash in the Championship, still involving Brighton but now featuring second placed Hull. Elsewhere it’s just nice to have all 72 back playing. Points of interest are how Doncaster and Peterborough rebound after the first managerial sackings of the season.
