The Queensland Cup take their competition on the road this week as Country Week returns for another year. This year sees games spread from Blackall to Charters Towers, Dalby to Stanthorpe, and Bundaberg to Innisfail. There’s also the blockbuster clash in Port Moresby between Gurgler favourite PNG Hunters and Wynnum Seagulls.
It is a great idea to take the football to the grassroots, and because it is a great idea that doesn’t make any extra money it will never be picked up by the NRL. Shame for them, as it will be a thrill for locals lucky to get to game. Just as it is a shame a side like PNG will never get an NRL license, the crowd and football on Saturday night will no doubt show that they’re ready for it.
The Hunters v Wynnum clash is 2nd v 3rd and the second of two clashes between the top 4 sides this weekend. In Katter Country they will be treated to the Townsville Blackhawks v Ipswich Jets – which is 1st v 4th.
