Welcome to the Gurgler’s UK Football Weekly. We discuss things UK Football, and it doesn’t begin in Manchester and finish in London. We care about all four leagues and below if we have time. All your favourite stars are here too with the exception of Ariaga II. Enjoy the finest.
Too much football is barely enough? Sure is, and another full round of weekend fixtures awaits.
Talking points for the week start off at Loftus Road and with Harry Redknapp who resigned due to a knee injury. He possibly followed the jumping before pushed rule, and after reading and listening to quite of few QPR fans, no one seems that sad to see him go.
Ex Spurs manager Tim Sherwood looks the early favourite, but it is QPR, so an over the hill washed up but expensive manager may well be out there and hired to match their players recruitment strategy.
They remain relegation candidates (esp having not gained a point on the road), and that may not be their worst fate, as they have been threatened with demotion to the 5th tier conference if they don’t pay their 50+ Million Pound fine on their return.
Another team that are relegation candidates, and somehow not in the bottom three are Aston Villa. They are currently 612 minutes without scoring in the EPL, and only have to face Chelsea at home this week to break the drought.
An anti-climatic transfer window closed earlier in the week, with the big teams grabbing another player or two to fill gaps, and loans-a-plenty as players on the outer look for game time.
Talking of loans, one of the big winners of the transfer window was Derby in the Championship. Already a promotion favourite and in a strong position, they managed to get another bunch of quality players in time to make the final push for the promised land.
Another manager gone at Nottingham Forest as Stuart Pierce suffers the inevitable fate of consistent underachievement. Forest were one time leaders of the comp, but are now firmly entrenched in the mid table and heading south.
Further south and Championship related last year are Yeovil Town who also dismissed a boss this week. In this case it was Gary Johnson, a man who has led Yeovil to most of their glories. Harsh, but not much else you can do at the bottom of League One.
Just in case you forgot, here’s the most recent results.
