    HOME > AWAY

Time for a little Home and Away action. No, not that awful thing, but a look into the dominance of home sides in the NRL in 2024 so far.

It was another 7/8 week for the home sides with only the Dolphins and Souths not scoring 30 points or more (Dolphins were 26 points). But it does feel like the home sides are more bankable this season than previous.

It does look historically significant so far.

    SOUTH STINK-NEY

South Sydney currently lie at the bottom of the NRL, a decent effort considering the players they have and the fact they led the NRL in Round 11 in 2023. Souths fans and data buffs would know Souths are one of the few teams to go from Minor Premiers one year to dead last the next without drugs or salary cap blowouts.

It means their coach Jason Demetriou is struggling to keep his job, with one source (probably the awful Buzz Rothfield) saying it is just one game. With games against the Sharks, Melbourne in Melbourne (where Souths have never, ever won) and Penrith in the next three weeks you can see why.

So here are some stats to show the decline in the Rabbitohs since leading the comp in Round 11 last season. Their form is getting close to genuine bottom four.

    • Souths have conceded the third highest total of penalties + ruck infringements in 2024.
    • Souths have made the fourth highest total of errors in 2024.
    • South average 5.0 points scored in the first half of games in 2024.
    • Just two line break assists and two try assists for Cody Walker this season and no line breaks.
    • Latrell Mitchell’s stats for 2024 not too bad.
    • Damien Cook dummy half running metres down.
