NRL Round 1 Stats Summary – Points of Interest

That’s nine straight for the Roosters on a Saturday v Qld opposition.

Broncos won all their games on a Saturday in 2023 vs Sydney teams, but 0% thus far in 2024.

That’s now two losses in a row for Queensland sides playing in USA.

It was Manly’s first win over South Sydney since April 2019 and broke a run of seven straight defeats.

The win was only Manly’s third in 12 first round matches.

That’s now four losses from four games at McDonald Jones Stadium on a Thursday for Newcastle.

Newcastle’s loss broke a run of six Newcastle Round 1 wins at home. It also broke a run of six straight wins at home.

It was only Canberra’s sixth win away to Newcastle in 20 games since 1998.

The 12 points conceded by Canberra was their lowest since beating Wests Tigers 56-10 in September 2022.

Cronulla’s win over the Warriors was just their third Round 1 win since 2010.

Warriors are now 1/6 v Cronulla on a Friday. Cronulla have won their last six on a Friday.

Of the 56 times the Warriors have scored exactly 12 points since 1998, they have won five games. And none of the last 21 now.

According to our match stats above, Cronulla lost every one of our key H2H Stats comparisons except score.

It’s only the seventh time since 1998 that a team has been kept scoreless in Round 1. Penrith did it previously in 2007. They also kept North Qld pointless in 2021, the second time the Cowboys scored zero in Round 1.

Four teams have scored zero in a season and still gone on to win the premiership – Penrith 2022, Melbourne 2020, Bulldogs 2004, Brisbane 2000. Three of those four occurrences happen in leap years. And 2024 is also a leap year.

Melbourne are just the third side to score eight points or less in a Round 1 clash and win – Bulldogs in 2022 and Parramatta in 2020.

Melbourne last lost a Round 1 clash in 2001.

Penrith last won a Round 1 away from home in 2006.

It is only the fourth time Melbourne have kept a team scoreless on a Friday.

Parramatta have won 14 of their last 17 v Bulldogs.

Parramatta have won eight of their last nine at home to Bulldogs and conceded 12 points or less in all of those eight games.

Parramatta have won 10 of their 11 Saturday games at Commbank Stadium v all opposition.

It is St George Illawarra’s first away win since August 2022 after they lost all of their away games in 2023.

Gold Coast have won just 1/7 v Dragons at home on a Saturday. And now just one in 10 v Dragons anywhere on a Saturday.

Gold Coast have won just three of 16 games at home on a Saturday v Sydney opposition.

Dragons broke a run of seven away losses in a row v Qld teams.

That’s now 4/5 for the Dragons in Round 1 in Queensland venues. And 3/3 in Round 1 v Gold Coast.

Gold Coast have scored six points or less in four of their last six Round 1 games.

The last time Dragons conceded six points or less was in July 2022.

The last time the Dragons conceded six points or less away from home was April 2017.

North Queensland’s 43 points was the third highest score by an away team in Round 1.
