NOMINATIONS | July 2018 Hero of the Month

After the unveiling of July’s Jerks of the Month nominations earlier day, it is nice to unveil people of differing qualities with our July 2018 Hero of the Month nominations.t

The hero of the month was introduced to tone down some of the cynicism and hatred that can exist in the world from time to time, and our batch of nominations for this month are a great mix.

Although there’s a strong factor of a certain Australian broadcaster and world sporting event. And there’s almost a hero for every Jerk nominated in a nice twist.

Here for your consideration and voting are the nominations for July 2018 Hero of the Month. You, the loyal or occasional reader get to decide who the ultimate winner is too.

So Vote Early, and Vote Often.

July 2018 Hero of the Month Nominations

AUSTRALIAN DIVERS FROM THAI CAVES RESCUE

Why should you vote for them?

Because they kick arse and finally diving is useful. More than a one person submarine offered by a nominated Jerk.

Enough elsewhere has been written.

Hero Factor – 10/10

FOX SPORTS

Why should you vote for them?

Because they hired Kerry O’Keeffe for their upcoming Summer of Cricket, and suddenly that summer has become interesting again. The same cn not be said for Jerk nomination Channel 7 and their hiring of Slats.

Hero Factor – 6/10

CROATIAN FOOTBALL TEAM

Why should you vote for them?

Went from potential Dark Horse to World Cup Finalists, beating a few decent teams along the way, including all three group matches and broke England’s heart later than usual in the tournament. Nice to see a new name in the World Cup final anyway.

Hero Factor – 5/10

SBS, LUCY ZELIC, CRAIG FOSTER

Why should you vote for them?

Were initially there to do just whatever Optus Sport could let them, but eventually broadcast the entire World Cup, just the way we like it after Optus Sport finally admitted they had been hopeless.

They all looked pretty tired by the end, they probably sent a skeleton staff over given the initial arrangement, so glad they felt as tired as us.

For all the picking on her pronunciations, and Fossie’s rants, it was just the right amount of everything, and the Football World Cup should remain there forever more. Commercial TV or streaming services will only f*** it up.

Hero Factor – 8/10

DAREDEVIL BMX RIDER JUMPS OVER TOUR DE FRANCE

Why should you vote for him?

The Tour de France is a lovely piece of background TV, not quite the Slow TV feast that was The Ghan, but what is.

The usual cycling showpiece was interrupted by someone showing even more skill on a BMX as he jumped over the Tour de France field.

Dangerous, yes. Careless, yes. Funny, yes. Hero Nomination, absolutely.

Hero Factor – 3/10

LEE LIN CHIN

Why should you vote for her?

SBS has another nomination, and this time it is for newsreader Lee Lin Chin who announced that she is quitting, not retiring, from reading the news for SBS.

If we can’t nominate her for a July 2018 Hero of the Month award, when can we?

Lee Lin Chin is different, professional, knowledgeable about of lot of things, which is probably why she stayed on SBS and no other channel poached her. When she says that her two days a week were getting in the way of her reading and going to the pub, that reaches a good standard of legend.

Hopefully they’ll still get her involved for Eurovision next year.

Hero Factor – 8/10

UK TRUMP PROTESTORS

Why should you vote for them?

For their giant Trump Baby blimp.

For their use of the song Hey Baby (If You’ll Be My Girl) to sing about Trump and get a four letter word that sort of rhymes with it.

For their placards, the best of which used the very long-winded Mary Poppins song into a Trump tirade and description.

Hero Factor – 6/10
